This variation expands upon the techniques developed in Variation 34. In this variation the string crossing pattern in each quarter note beat alternates A-string, D-string, A-string. Maintain a loose wrist in this variation and employ a very economic circular motion in the fingers and wrist to execute the string crossing. Prioritize the right elbow level toward the A string as it is played most of the time (2/3 notes) in the main variation.
As in Variation 34, practice with double stops to secure the intonation and solidity of left-hand control. Slowly build up the tempo of the double stops and take breaks to practice the various bowing patterns using just the open strings.
Especially in the sautillé sub-variations, use the impulse technique of placing a quarter note rest between each beat to secure the complex bowing patterns. Build up the number of beats in each impulse while maintaining a symmetrical relationship between impulse and rest time.
