Variation 33

#upbowstaccato #upperhalf

While at first glance, it may appear that this variation could be interpreted as an on the string or off the string stroke (similar to previous variations), this variation takes place entirely in the upper half (o.H.) of the bow where a spiccato stroke is less practical. The dolce marking supports the idea that this variation can be played in a softer dynamic that is readily attainable in the upper half of the bow.

Begin your practice in a slower tempo with clear articulation and a mezzo forte dynamic before accelerating the tempo and lightening the dynamic closer to a mezzo piano. Pay attention to the quality of the stroke, making sure that this on the string staccato is not too aggressive and that it retains some warmth and dolce character.
