Variation 27
#sautillé
This variation builds on the sautillé technique explored in Variation 16. The difference here is the string crossing within the four-note grouping, rather than after the beat. It is important to minimize the movement of the upper arm in this variation and focus the movement to the fingers, wrist, and forearm. Allow the downward trajectory of the wrist to initiate the accent at the start of each quarter note.
To help develop coordination of the stroke and left hand, practice this variation with impulses. Start with one quarter note impulses, then move onto two quarter note impulses. Use the metronome for this technique and be sure to release tension in the right and left arm in the rest(s) after the impulse(s). This technique is especially helpful in the sub-variations that have different string crossing patterns than the original variation.
