Variation 26

#wholebow #upbowstaccato #options

This variation offers the challenge of managing clear articulation at the tip. After the first slur, the 16th notes should begin right at the tip, around a centimeter or two away from the tip of the bow. This is inherently the weakest part of the bow, so it requires extra power from the right arm. Some extra pronation can help create a clear start to the note and subsequent up bow staccato notes. This interpretation of the instructions develops the accessibility of power at the tip.

While it is very helpful to perform this variation with an on the string spiccato stroke, it can be executed with a more hopping or spiccato type stroke. The pedagogical goal shifts with that change, but it is nonetheless a beneficial exercise to demonstrate mastery of both techniques.
