Variation 22
#spiccato #ricochet #sautillé
Sub-variations
1,2,3 Slur + spiccato
4,5 ricochet
6 dynamic contrast
7 sautillé
This variation can be seen in a similar vein as variations 13, 34 and 38. All the notes in these variations are the same value, which challenges the evenness of rhythm and allows for a multitude of sub-variations to further challenge evenness while executing different bow strokes.
In sub-variations 1-3 make sure the slur does not bounce, and that the spiccato remains even throughout. For sub-variations 4 and 5 practice in impulses of one and two beats as explained in earlier variations. Play the first quarter, then rest for one quarter and so on. For these two measures use an off the string ricochet stroke for the articulated slurs.
Variation 6 combines an on the string detaché stroke and a spiccato stroke in alternating measures and variation 7 is a straightforward sautillé variation, albeit a very fast one. In the fast tempo of variation 7 limit the amount of upper arm movement so that most of the motion is in the wrist and fingers.
