Variation 15
#spiccato #retake
This variation is to be performed with a spiccato stroke on every note. The challenge here is changing the speed/rhythm of the spiccato from 16th to eighth notes, as well as managing three up bow retakes at the end of each measure. While in Variation 1 the up bow retakes were articulated from the string, these three up bows are articulated from the air, meaning the bow drops down from the air to the string, allowing gravity to assist in letting the stroke bounce. Similar to Variation 1, make sure that the three up bows land in the exact same spot. The tendency is for each stroke to occur closer and closer to the frog. Use a circular wrist motion to make an effective retake that maintains the quality of the spiccato in the beginning of the measure.
Additional attention should be paid to the contact point at he first bar of the third line, as well as in the scale passages. Be sure to adjust the contact point closer to the bridge in these sections to maintain a purity of articulation in the spiccato stroke.
